No One Fights Alone

About Mi Vida, Inc.

In July 2016, William Anthony Jimenez was diagnosed with Stage 3 Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, a disease in which malignant cancer cells form in the tissues of the upper part of the throat, behind the nose. As any cancer diagnosis will, this one devastated William’s family and friends. Beyond what was going to be an incredibly emotional and physical struggle was this looming, additional burden to bear. The financial impact that the diagnosis of a serious illness has on a family can be overwhelming, and this added stress can impede the process of treatment and recovery.

As a self-employed business owner, William and his wife Patty work hard to pay their bills, leaving little reserve to handle such an additional burden. Although he continues to work when possible, his work is physically demanding. On some days, too demanding. Realizing this early on, William sought help and was presented with paperwork, delays, and only bad news. He feared the worst. Not only was he going to have to battle cancer, he was going to have to battle the system.

Presented with so many challenges so quickly, William turned to his faith for some relief. He prayed to God asking for help.

His first sign of relief came from a Doctor in Wayne, NJ. After examining William and explaining the steps he was going to need to take to fully diagnose and treat his disease, this Doctor waived his fees and directed William to seek Medicaid. After hearing that his application to Medicaid could take up to 6 weeks – realizing this could be a death sentence – William prayed again, and again he found relief in a speedy approval.

With medical insurance in place, William began his treatment. Doctors prescribed a very aggressive chemotherapy regimen which would leave William in a state of sickness that he had never felt before. Again he prayed, and he heard HIS response. “Give Back and I’m Going to Give You” is what he heard.

From that point on, William has been following his Doctors’ recommended treatment and is now in his third round of chemo. A benefit was held on November 1, 2016 at the Brownstone in Paterson, NJ to help with the costs associated with his battle with cancer.

Mi Vida, Inc. was formed as a way to give back for the relief that William has found. The goal is to provide similar relief to families struggling financially through serious illness.
